Fire testing of a prototype clay wall construction for the Novo Nordisk Foundation Headquarters in Hellerup, Denmark

The clay walls in the fire test are a rethinking of the tradition of half-timbered framing. It is an over-sized half-timbered construction. The CLT framing measures 40x40 cm in cross-section. The frame is approx. 3.5 x 4.5 m.

This was one of the radical and poetic questions at the heart of a workshop on May 25th, 2025, initiated by Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects, in cooperation with In­stitut français du Danemark, Statens Kunstfond and Dreyers Fond, with a desire to investigate the implications of the Italian philosopher Emanuele Coccia’s (plant) philosophy on architecture.
