The multi-purpose arena is shaped as a single, unified volume beneath a sweeping roof that seems to hover above the site like the wing of a great bird. Rising from the landscape with a quiet sense of lightness and movement, it will become a new architectural landmark for Tingbjerg and a gathering place for all of Copenhagen.

At the heart of the multi-purpose arena is the main event arena, a flexible space with room for 2,000 spectators and designed for sports, performances, and cultural events. The project also includes a large activity landscape and a wide range of facilities for associations, athletes, and local residents. Here, culture, sport, and everyday life come together. The arena’s roof rises toward the surrounding city and the magnificent landscape of the bog, while gently dipping down toward the ground, inviting people in beneath the wing. This gesture is in close dialogue with Tingbjerg: the district is both a low-rise development that nestles into the bog landscape, while the high-rise serves as a landmark for the area.

A minimal footprint creates space for active outdoor areas
The large scale of Tingbjerg Sports Park and the urban plan calls for an equally strong counterpart. We have therefore created a single, freestanding building with the smallest possible footprint on the site. This makes room for green, active areas around the arena.

An inviting forecourt
Tingbjerg Multi-Purpose Arena will become an integrated part of the sports park itself. We have therefore created an inviting forecourt that opens toward the sports park. The forecourt can also be used for flea market days and other local events. At the same time, the existing passage between Tingbjerg and the soccer fields is preserved.

”We have created a single, cohesive form that settles gently into the expansive landscape and reads as one unified arena. This approach leaves as much space as possible for nature and the recreational life surrounding the building. The large roof brings two movements together in one form: with a soft, wing-like gesture, it dips down into the arrival area and meets visitors at eye level. At the same time, the diagonal ridge rises above the main arena hall, projecting a distinctive presence toward the surrounding world.”

A central foyer and reception create safety and orientation
The arena has a vibrant interior spatial universe, where smaller functions—movement studios, community spaces, a café, and staff facilities surround the exhibition hall and the dedicated motor skills gym on two levels. The reception desk in the foyer is the arena’s “command bridge.” From here, it is easy to take in all the central elements of the building. This creates clarity and a sense of safety.

A biodiverse landscape with many activities
The landscape concept surrounding the arena supports and builds on the natural qualities and green connections that underpin the vision for Tingbjerg. We strengthen the existing green connections and point to new ones. We preserve as much of the original planting as possible and increase biodiversity. At the same time, new opportunities are created for movement and social interaction, with safe meeting places that offer social, biological, and aesthetic value.

The arena becomes a single, freestanding building with the smallest possible footprint on the site.

The large scale of Tingbjerg Sports Park and the urban plan is given an equally strong counterpart.

In the next phase, work will focus on creating a variety of activity and gathering zones, along with paths that can accommodate play areas, cultural events, and other activities

The overall impression is of a building set within a scenic landscape of movement, connected to both Utterslev Mose and the Tingbjerg district.

The performance hall/main event arena spans both the ground floor and first floor, with an impressive 13-meter clear height. Located at the south gable, it is visible as soon as you turn onto the site. Spectators can access the stands from both the floor and the balcony. From the fixed seating at the end of the exhibition hall, there are views over the bog.

1. The roof of the multi-purpose arena rises toward the magnificent landscape and dips down toward the ground, inviting people inside. 2. The design creates space for both a forecourt and green areas. 3. The main entrance serves as a clear point of orientation. 4. A centrally located foyer and reception provide overview and a sense of safety.

Site plan. The building’s compact footprint creates space for both a forecourt facing Tingbjerg Sports Park and a green activity space toward the student housing.

Cross section AA. The hall is clear and visible from the entrance to the area and features a high degree of outward-facing functions that offer views into the activities.

Longitudinal section BB

Ground floor plan. The reception is centrally located between the two halls, creating orientation and a sense of safety.

First floor plan. The association zone, lounge, and three movement studios are located on the first floor. From the circulation gallery, visitors can look down into the foyer, the multi-purpose arena, and the large exhibition hall.
