A competition proposal rooted in cultural heritage and a new urban identity
One of the highlights this fall was working on the competition proposal for the new Rogaland Theater and Stavanger Museum together with Helen & Hard, Marianne Levinsen Landskab, Charcoal Blue og Gade & Mortensen Akustik.
Our vision for the new theatre and museum complex on Kannikhøyden is rooted in the site’s geography, history, and spirit. The aim is to unite the historic Eckhoff buildings with new architecture into a coherent whole that opens the hill toward the city, brings new life to Stavanger’s cultural landscape, and becomes an attraction for visitors.
The natural and cultural environment on Kannikhøyden has significant regional and national value.
In our proposal the historic monumental buildings remain visible and stand free in the urban landscape. The new architecture adds quality both to the surroundings and to the functions of the theatre and the museum. The project balances respect for cultural heritage, site qualities, and urban identity, in line with the intentions of the city center master plan.
It was a pleasure to be able to contribute to this vision for Stavanger.
