Lene Tranberg steps down from the partnership at Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects
After 40 years as co-founder and partner, architect Lene Tranberg will step down from the partnership at Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects as of September 1, 2025. She will continue her involvement in the company as Chair of the Board.
Since founding the studio together with Boje Lundgaard in 1985, Lene Tranberg has been a central driving force in shaping the firm’s professional profile and culture, characterized by professionalism, community, and collaboration. She is now stepping out of the working collective she helped to create, passing the baton on to a well-established group of partners.
“My 40 years with Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects have never felt like work. They have been four decades of deep connection with people, with the discipline of architecture, and with the works we have created together. It is a great joy to know that what I have helped build will continue to thrive within the partnership and among our employees. When a company’s culture is allowed to grow strong, it becomes larger than any individual. It flows freely between people, and it resides within the projects. Now, in a sense, I am ‘leaving home.’ And I look forward to returning in my role as Chair of the Board,” says Lene Tranberg.
Through her work, Lene Tranberg has left her mark on a wide range of award-winning projects that have helped shape Copenhagen, the rest of Denmark, and Sweden, including Kilen for CBS in Frederiksberg, the Royal Danish Playhouse, Ofelia Square, Tietgen College, SEB Bank, the Museum of Danish Resistance, Kannikegården in Ribe, Axel Towers, the Royal Opera in Stockholm, the Natural History Museum Denmark, set to open in 2027, and most recently the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde.
After Boje Lundgaard’s passing in 2004, Lene Tranberg brought in seven partners and continued leading the studio together with them. In 2020, the partnership was expanded and today comprises 15 members. In 2025, the partnership received the Nykredit Foundation Architecture Prize for collectively integrating the human, artistic, and sustainable aspects of architecture.
