Hasselbacken

Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects win the development of historic hotel and exhibition venue in Stockholm

Hotel Hasselbacken has existed since the 1700s as a popular leisure time destination for Stockholmers. The building is worthy of preservation, located on the island of Djurgården in central Stockholm. In addition to hotel facilities, Hasselbacken is a renowned entertainment venue offering concerts and dining.

We have won the parallel design contract for the extension of Hasselbacken comprising hotel facilities, spa, an indoor exhibition space, a café and restaurant, as well as an outdoor stage for concerts. Our proposal has a strong focus on creating a coherent space for the entire area taking into consideration the existing Hasselbacken and the adjacent, historic park. The new Hasselbacken is to become an anchorage point for the adjacent buildings; the ABBA Museum, Konsthallen 15 and Circus – all offering exhibitions and concerts contributing to the experience of Hasselbacken as an attractive destination.

Hasselbacken is located in the park ‘Evenemangsparksparken’ on the island of Djurgården. The area was formerly a royal park used for
hunting. It forms part of Stockholm’s large national park area belonging to the crown since the late medieval times and today one of the city’s most visited areas.

Our proposal for the new Hasselbacken will be released when the new district plan is going out for consultation.
