The new museum opens May 2020, on the 75th anniversary of Denmark’s liberation from German occupation in World War II.

The old museum burned to the ground in a fire in 2013, luckily all objects were saved. We look forward to experiencing the National Museum’s new exhibition

The design competition for the new museum was won in 2015. Since then, we have been working to create the right framework and atmosphere for the museum to communicate the important story of the Danish fight for freedom. We have also had focus on weaving the new building into the sensitive urban and park environment of the Churchill Park by Kastellet.

Over the winter both the exhibition and the park space will be completed. The creepers growing on the trellis will slowly turn the dark rotunda green and in the fall robinias will be planted along with new beeches in the Churchill Park.
