“The new meeting space, placed as an independent building in the middle of the courtyard, is a simple, cubic building with a light and transparent appearance.
The meeting space is accessed from the existing main entry and reception via a connecting hall under sloped terrain in the courtyards northwest corner.
The courtyard is maintained as a continuous garden space encircled by the characteristic masonry buildings of the existing refuge, with the new meeting space providing the new point of focus.
Landscape elements of paving, vegetation, and water radiate out from the new meeting room, defining the movement across the courtyard space and creating a framework for a variety of activities and experiences.
The required fitness room is placed as a solitary addition on the east side of the refuge, in principle where the current tool shed is found.”
