Blangstedgaard is a neighbourhood of approximately 600 housing units near Odense, constructed in connection with the building exhibition ‘Build & Dwell’ in 1988.
A hedge of existing ash trees on the site establishes the urban plans spatial organization, holding the overall structure together and creating characteristic landscape spaces as a background to the variegated development.
The urban plan challenges the traditional boundaries between different housing typologies. Single-family houses, dense-low housing, and apartment blocks are linked together and integrated around common roads, paths, and plazas.
The urban plan establishes a common architectural language for all housing types and includes all parcels in a detailed district plan, which prescribes the placement, heights, and roof forms of the buildings.
The office was responsible not only for the urban plan and design manual, but also for the design of three apartment blocks, a series of row-houses, a single family house, and day-care centre.
