As part of an larger urban renewal project in the Vesterbro quarter, the property has been renovated with the intention of testing a series of special environmental strategies.
A new climate screen of glass has been added in front of the southwest courtyard facade, so that each modernized unit has been expanded with a flexible, unheated buffer zone.
The glass facade contains both sliding partitions as well as awning windows, so that the buffer zone can be ventilated – along with the adjacent rooms – as well as be used a balcony during the summer.
The original facade is treated with a dark gray mortar wash, so that the resultant passive solar heating of the buffer zone will reduce the energy used in heating the apartments.
The entire south facing roof surface is clad with solar panels that supply the building and four neighboring buildings with hot water.
