The Playhouse Chair

The Playhouse Chair

The theatre chair was developed for the New Royal Playhouse Main Stage, which seats 650.

The chair design is inspired by the freedom of movement needed by a spectator of the modern theatre. The action of a theatre piece is no longer limited to the stage, requiring that a spectator can move freely while seated in order to follow the action, wherever it may taking place.

The theatre chair also helps to ensure the proper acoustics in the room, with that an empty chair absorbing the same amount of sound as a person.

The fabric-covering colour is red with a small amount of black added, making the chair darken and disappear when the lights go down and the theatre piece begins.

The theatre chair has twelve different frames, meeting various requirements for seat heights, seatback angles, and installation principles.
