Kvæsthus Project

The intent of the project is to improve access from central Copenhagen to the Holmen quarter, relieve traffic conditions around the playhouse and opera, and establish the Kvæsthus quay as an urban space.

A new pedestrian and cycle bridge creates a winding passage over the harbour, connecting Kvæsthus quay to the Dokøen island of Holmen.

A new parking garage under Kvæsthus quay helps to meet the parking requirements of the playhouse and opera and make possible the development of Sankt Annæ Plads into an attractive urban space by removing street parking from the area.

Kvæsthus quay is converted to a multi-purpose urban/harbour space, with pavilions for cafés, public toilets, parking garage stairs, harbour tours, boat rentals, etc.

The proposal was developed as an initiative of Realdania, who has offered to realize the project for the city.
